OVERVIEW

Amber is an experienced litigator in the areas of condominium law and employment law. She has extensive experience in acting for condominium corporations on a range of issues, including collections, bylaw enforcement, construction deficiencies, and general advising. She has also represented employers in various employment proceedings, including wrongful dismissals, Human Rights complaints, Employment Standards claims, Federal Labour complaints, and Federal Court actions. In addition, Amber advises employers on general employment matters and has worked with large organizations, such as First Nations, on employment issues, including company reorganizations.

By taking a practical approach and making her legal advice more accessible, Amber ensures that her clients are well informed and positioned to act decisively. For example, condominium boards of directors benefit from learning about best practices and condominium community management strategies across the industry.

Amber is invested in her clients’ long-term success and therefore participates in retreats and leads team building activities. She trains employers and employees in how to function effectively together. She demonstrates to both parties that their policy manuals and procedures are important relationship building tools. Amber's strong communication skills make her an effective advocate, both in speech and in writing affidavits, briefs, and contracts. She recognizes that word choice plays a vital rhetorical role, extending beyond just its legal consequences.

In addition to being a strong advocate for her clients, Amber is dedicated to mentoring students and colleagues who are starting their own practices. She attributes much of her confidence to her own excellent articling experience in Red Deer, which allowed her to learn through hands-on immersion.

Amber spent many years in Halifax before returning to Alberta in 2011 to start her practice. She enjoys cooking and baking at home. Amber loves dogs, enjoys stand-up comedy, and is an avid golfer.

We acknowledge that what we call Alberta is the traditional and ancestral territory of many peoples, presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and 8. Namely: the Blackfoot Confederacy – Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika – the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, and the Tsuu T’ina Nation and the Métis People of Alberta. This includes the Métis Settlements and the Six Regions of the Métis Nation of Alberta within the historical Northwest Metis Homeland. We acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on or are visiting.
