OVERVIEW

Philip is an experienced and effective litigator with a practice spanning 27 years. Having worked closely with Don Goodfellow  for the past 13 years, Philip has developed construction law expertise which includes commercial and residential disputes, tendering, contract review, and condominium law. Philip represents sub-contractors, general contractors and owners to resolve builders’ liens and breach of contract matters.

The complex and lengthy nature of construction disputes cause many parties to be hesitant to take action yet Philip is able to calmly and confidently outline the options and respective consequences to clients. His background and patient nature comes together to create a steady support upon which clients can rely, particularly in cases where parties are unfamiliar with the law and the process.

While Philip has been a robust litigator his entire career, he appreciates that opportunities for agreement often present themselves during the process and he brings those to the attention of his clients.

Philip credits his ten years as Lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Navy before law school with his ability to relate to clients on a personal level. He entered the legal profession with a significant level of life experience and maturity. Philip maintains a connection with his Armed Forces background through his participation with the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Education Foundation. He was a board member from 2013 to 2018.

Prior to 2006, Philip practiced personal injury (plaintiff and defence) and family law in British Columbia.

Philip and his wife Paulette have two children. Much of Philip’s time outside the office is spent with his son Evan swimming, nature walking, and skating. The Biggar family advocate for and rely on the Autism Aspergers Friendship Society of Calgary, an organisation that generously provides resources in the form of social and recreational programming specific to the ASD community.
